holding camera to ep

i've heard a lot of people on here at one time or another talk about holding the camera up to the ep and taking the pic.

now i've tried this in day time and got a pretty good shot of winter hill

not tried at night yet but is it the same principle? will the camera be able to pick anything up on a longer exposure i take it.

any help would be greatly appreciated?

This is called afocal imaging and works quite well.

It is best if you use a camera with a small lens so it can get as close to the eyepiece as possible.

Also best if you buy a mount to hold the camera in place so you can do longer exposures.

Apart from that it works well and people can get some decent shots.

Algol,

Steelrat, Bernie, and others have got excellent results from using that method on the moon. In fact SR has had one published it was so good. So go for it, The more you do it, the better you will become.

Ron.

Remember not to be dissapointed with your first attempts.

Astrophotography is an aquired skill and not one that comes easy.

Good focus and keeping the camera still is the answer. I would recommend that you practice on Polaris as this star does not move and is bright so will allow you have a decent go at focus and exposure settings etc.

The final picture may not be breath taking but you will have learned a lot from the north star.
