Balancing scope on supertrack mount

Recommended Posts

Yes but how do you know when it's balanced as the mount does not move freely because of the motors.

I see what you mean now. :? Put a pencil or pen on a flat surface and place the scope with the dovetail onto it and begin moving backwards and forwards until it is almost balanced then mark that point with a piece of tape and then place the marked position in the center of the clamp and Robert is your aunties husband so to speak. :)

One way I would offer is to remove the OTA from mount, complete with eyepeice etc. and try balacing it across a cricket stump (or similar diameter dowell!) Mark balance position with sticky coloured "dot" from stationer etc.

(Heheh, beaten to it, M.P)

I used to have the mak version of this and it did not seem too fussy - I just put it somewhere near the centre of the dovetail and it seemed to track quite happily all night

I have been doing the same so far but thought it might be putting unnecessary strain on the motors or gears.
