3d Printing - great for astro stuff!

Recommended Posts

So, I decided to try work on printing out some gear. Specifically I wanted a piggy back mount and I just don't have the money for one right now.

So, I designed and printed the following, which quite happily holds my partner's 7D onto my scope (Pictures of my 600D on the mount coming soon). The infill is very thick so the part so far seems extremely strong, strong enough that you could lift the scope itself by the plastic and not break it, not that I would advise you do that...

It's designed to work with the plate for my tripod, so I just slot the camera into the front and I'm away really. This is more just a prototype than anything impressive. I am hoping to design a more universal one soon. Also, excuse the bright neon green plastic, the company we bought from screwed up our order for white ABS~

I certainly don't mind helping out where I can!

I decided I might work on a dovetail for my camera next. I figure if I can't afford a decent refractor I can at least mount my camera and use my partners 200 and 300mm lenses on my camera whilst mounted onto my mount. Might try out my piggyback tonight. Will post results if I get any.
