Mounts Power cable freedom?

Hi All,

           I was thinking of strapping my mounts power lead to the counterweights so the trail of cable is away from the mount it's self to allow for a free cable on slews.

Do any of you do this? And is it effective please?

I hang my battery box from the tripod spreader to add weight and stability. I think mounting on th weight bar would be cumbersome and would need to be taken account in balancing your scope.

Not the power source, just the cable? 

I have 3 meters of light cable hanging free which is then attached to the tripod leg where it is joined to the rest of the cable (see pic) This is nominal weight so should not really effect balance during slews or tracking.
