rwilkey
Hi, filters can be stacked together for storage purposes, but rarely used for observing as they limit the transmittance of light. I read a Meade document recently that suggested stacking a violet filter with another, well, a violet filter has only 3% transmittance so that would not have worked. No, I cannot see any sense or practicality in using more than one filter at a time. I don't use colour filters anyway for night time viewing, but rather use specialized filters such as nebula filters etc when required.

Moonshane
I stack three filters (ND3.0, Baader Solar Continuum and Polarising filters) in my Lunt Wedge for white light solar obs. Other than that I tend to use them singly.

ronl
The filters Moonshane refers to are for viewing the Sun, these are specialist filters, never view the sun without special filters that are designated for that only, Robin'spost tells you everything you need to know, he knows all about eyepieces, this linkwill take you to his site http://swindonstargazers.com/beginners/eyepieces.htm well worth aread, helps you to understand eyepieces. rwilkey
I only use my colour filters for white light solar viewing as well (with a full aperture solar filter at the front of the scope).

The point I was making was that stacking filters is feasible dependent upon the application
