Playing with the application of the moment: http://www.zipproth.de/Straton/

M31 from last year: 100 x 2.56s frames stacked via my old ST102 achromat

No dark frame subtraction but a hefty gradient removed by IRIS software. :)

M31 surrounding stars:

M31 with NO stars (but sundry Noise!)

M31 composite with REDUCED stars:

Seems useful if you have to dig a low surface galaxy out of the noise etc.

Can probably "lasoo" more junk around M31 when I know what I'm doing?  :p

Very nice, I enjoy the learning the steps to get to that image. I too am getting along in AP but, I haven't took the plunge in the Deep as of yet . My lil' cf 80mm is too slow @ f11and my Z10 f5 is earthbound cuz I'm not lifting it up on my lxd55 which it'll be too heavy for it anyways. I will be getting onto long exposure someday, it just takes getting an autoguider and gudescope which cost $$$$$$$. In 2014 Xmas and Bday money , got  Santa talked into delivering a late gift a new addition for my mount, WOOHOO !post-39008-0-60742900-1420322021_thumb.j
