gps rip off prices

has anyone come up with an alternative active gps module for syncscan based mounts (orion, celestron, and skywatcher)

as I see it from pictures its a standard active gps unit with an adapter to rj-12 connector as  all the parts cost about a £10 wondered if theres anyone sorted it by now

Can you just plug anyone in? is thee not some sort of checking to see if its the right one?
