Thanks for the encouraging comments everyone.

You have got there before me, as we were discussing the similarity of our gear sometime back. Did you end up stripping re-greasing the EQ3-2 or adding any other mods to it? I've done the re-grease - just waiting for the funds to build up for the polar scope...

I was hoping to strip down the EQ3-2 last week but was too busy in the end. Alan's tip above about the locking screw could well be a good one, I've noticed exactly what he is describing - uneven drag when trying to balance the mount.

Good luck getting your 50mm lens going, I look forward to seeing the results. Think I've mentioned this before but a polar scope isn't essential at 50mm, it's possible to get decent useful subs just sighting through the mount.
