I have an odd issue when using my m in manual mode taking long exposure shots of 15/30 seconds.

I can take the shot fine, but when it has done it, the camera keeps taking shots of the same exposure time and won't stop?!?

Has anyone else experienced this issue?!

Could you be in self-timer: continuous shooting mode perhaps? Canons can normally be set to take up to ten shots when the timer expires.

if you have noise reduction turned on it could be the camera taking a dark frame to use for noise removal.

It is the noise reduction feature.

Any exposure over generally 1 second means it kicks in, unless switched off. You take a 20 second exposure then the camera takes one of the same length with the shutter closed. In effect a sort of Dark. It then subtracts the "Dark" from the normal exposure. And you get a better image.

Could cause trouble in 2 ways:

1) The sensor will get hot/warm so you then need to let it cool down by about the same time as it was on, so twice the set exposure time.

2) If the rear view finder is not blocked the light can creep in and so give a false reading for the "Dark".

ronin: I think the noise reduction is turned off. I'm using a timer of 5 seconds before the shot is taken, but it could be a continuous shooting mode maybe, not sure how to turn it off either?!

the camera that is, the only way to stop it taking continuous pics is to open the battery cover! :-/

Try the two second timer (second from right) instead of continuous.
