Liquid360
Im awaiting a new mount which will be mobile. It's a Paramount MX+. The salesman said that I didn't need a polar scope. Is this true?
jambouk
I'd hope if they've just sold you a mount for over £7000 they would know what they are talking about Did he mean it doesn't come with one and you don't need one as it does polar alignment in a different way (drift alignment etc); or did he mean you don't need to worry about it as it already comes with a polar scope installed?James
kalasinman
Short answer-no. More weapons is always better.
Liquid360
I figured out in the manual. The software which drives the mount does an amazing alignment routine at startup, using the guidecam and visible stars and comparing them to maps to locate its place in the sky even factoring in any needed corrections. Looks to be amazing. Apparently it's an amazing thing to watch happen on your laptop as the entire process is automated and visible.
jambouk
Does it make its own adjustments too to get perfectly polar aligned? I was saying to a friend the other night, that surely couldn't be that difficult to design and build as part of a mount.

Liquid360
I'll keep you updated. The more I read the more anxious and excited I become! I lack the kind of friends who would be excited about such things and it's nice to be able to say "wow how amazing is this?!" And get something more than a yawn. With this mount and its software I really believe I'll be able to do everything on my MAC which to me is thrilling!

kalasinman
I have to ask, did you consider the ASA DDR60pro in the same price range? The direct drive sounds amazing.--Jack

Liquid360
I did consider it and it's an awesome and beautiful mount!! In the end there were a couple factors that made me go with the paramount. I'm a MAC user. Bisque makes, in my opinion, the best software and have for awhile. After years of making software they then made their mount, wrapped around their software which makes for a seamless, as close to flawless as exists, user interface. The way it self aligns at startup is amazing. It's beautifully well built, as is the ASA. Also, bisque is a USA company, which means little except that their easy for me to contact for tech support. They're a small company and an absolute joy to deal with. Any issue you have they'll do anything to make right. Should the mount fail, it's quick and easy to ship it to them in the US.So in summation, software/hardware interface, software, customer support, and build quality, 100lb capacity.... But mostly the interface and primary MAC support. I just dislike windows with a burning, seething, all encompassing hatred which stems from many many years using it. Yuck. I have to ask, did you consider the ASA DDR60pro in the same price range? The direct drive sounds amazing.--Jack
