if he is solely interested in visual observing then I agree with Steve about the observatory. I am assuming that his site is not somewhere prone to bad weather like in the UK and is possibly also remote so theft etc is not an issue? I believe that it would be far more cost effective to create a roll off unit for a large driven dobsonian. This would allow really good visual observing, could be linked to a video easily enough (I imagine) and you then just roll the 'shed' back on afterwards.

Personally I feel this would be far more rewarding.
