Thanks to all of you for the welcome and the comments. It was also Astronomia who were eventually able to get my AVX, and I am also looking for a f6.3 reducer, which I hope will make imaging DSO's a bit easier. If that fails I could allways buy myself a nice ED Refractor. So I had better brush up on my smuggling skills to get it all past the wife unscathed.

Bonjour et bienvenue Dave,

We get reasonably good dark skies over in l'auvergne (département 63), although it can be a tad froid in winter due to the altitude (2000ft 'ish).

You would certainly see some improvement after Birmingham.
