A good 30 minute target for tonight?

Recommended Posts

First clear skies in a month, but work tomorrow leaves me in a pickle. I really want to practice but it is a school night...

So with an f10 scope, medium light pollution and short time what is a simple target to try to get at least a practice image? Potentials are...

M57

What is likely to get the most out of the short time for me?

M5 / M3 will probably get the best results.

M101 isn't going to do much without a very long exposure at f10. M57 needs a bit of work too, though you could get something in 30 mins.

Just make sure at f10 your tracking skills are foremost ;)

Cheers, I have never tried a cluster.  And yes, I know my C8 is not the best scope for imaging, but dagnabbit I will make it work!

There is always the Moon, a very neglected DSO target in my opinion.

M13 Hercules Globular Cluster is in a good place at the moment, I managed to image that the other night through Birmingham's light pollution.  Or what about M27 Dumbbell Nebula, more colourful, bigger and brighter than M57.
