Many many congratulations - your first image, you are most definitely sliding down that slippery slope!!!

I hope you don't mind, but I couldn't resist having a play with the image in photoshop....

I did a gradient removal as per advice on a recent thread, using techniques from this thread (http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/211629-removing-gradients-in-photoshop-cs6/) and then moved the black point in to make the background darker.

Also, I reduced it down to 8 bits/pixel, converted it to sRGB colour space and saved it as a png. That way, it displays half decently on the forum.

I would have thought that the blur is all down to the wind and possibly a bit of polar alignment error - how careful were you with leveling the tripod and PA?

Great start though, well done!

Thanks alot PhotoGav! I haven't managed to get on my laptop for a few days - You've made great improvement to the image. This is a very slippery slope, however enjoyable and challenging, with so much to learn. It's taken me 6 months to get the equipment needed to take basic images and now it's going to be a bit of patience and as many opportunities as the wonderful British weather is going to give me which will let me improve the outcome!
