Quick snap turned out the best

I tried to get the Orion nebula last night with my DSLR, but didn't have much success. Just before I packed the camera away, I thought I'd get a quick couple of shots of the valley where I live with the sky above, and it turned out okay. No huge attempt to clean up the LP, because it looked odd when I did it, and Facebook has compressed the hell out of them (I'm not at my PC so I've had to nick them off there). If I was setting out to take these shots, I'd spend a bit more time.

Odd how the quick last shots sometimes is the only decent thing the night produces

the 2nd one is an especially pleasing shot, nice contrast between the light polluted suburbia and the starlit sky!

That second image is great. I think the contrast of the bright lights and dark sky helps to bring out the star lit sky that much better.
