hi all,

instead of putting my mount on the grass a friend suggested i put it on a pallet.  i have several pallets here at work which i can take today. problem is i don't know the base dimensions of the tripod WITHOUT the legs extended.

so, can anyone pls tell me the dimensions of the EQ5 tripod not extended. thanks

Hi,

I've just measured my steel tubed EQ5 tripod. With the legs in the unextended position, the tips of the 3 feet are 95cm apart from each other with the legs fully splayed. So they form a triangle with each side measuring 95cm as another way of putting it. Hope that makes sense !

thanks so much for all the quick replies... :)

@John, yes it makes perfect sense. exactly what i need.

@Tinker1947, just thinking of that & yes u maybe right.

so i'm thinking either:

A. one pallet which is 100cm x 120cm ?

B. four 60cm x 60cm pallets & combining them to make a 120cm x 120cm

C. three 60cm x 60cm and place each tripod leg on one (kinda like the LEM) ? <--- i'm thinking this is best??

what do u guys think?

Pallets are inherently unstable, and will bounce if you stand on them.

Can't imagine a worse platform for your mount.

Grass is the most stable of platforms.

cool, thanks.. ill take everyone's word :)

even if i make 3 round wooden plates for each leg...like the LEM?

Why do you want to put it on a pallet? It won't be fun I guarantee lol. :)

i just thought it will be more stable and wont sink into the grass..? i haven't taken my EQ5 outside yet...
