...that moonlight burns off cloud cover...what do you think? :p

Perfectly clear and calm by us tonight, and the moon is 86% up.

By my calculation people that work and don't have an observatory get exactly 1.68 days per year to do astrophotography. Of those 1.68 days half of them are spent fixing rig problems.

Threads that start with 'I have a theory' usually end up being absolute nonsense stemming from a misunderstanding of the word 'theory', a misunderstanding of science as a whole and general stupidity. This thread however is based on empirical evidence and therefore is a valid and accurate theory :grin:

I think you under-estimate the % time spent fixing rig problems.... :)    At least for imagers anyway.
