Good astronomy videos?

Recommended Posts

For weekly gazing this is always worth a watch.

One of my favourites, not so much about stargazing but very interesting background material.

These are not structured learning courses though as such, though eyes on the sky does have some intro videos to do with scopes and eyepieces, covering some of the basics.

The astronomy and nature centre covers more stuff to do with equipment, eyepieces and scope basics also.

Something to keep you busy I hope

Deep sky videos   are well worth a watch, enough there to pass away a few cloudy nights anyway. :)

I'd recommend the following.

Fraser Cain (Universe Today)

This includes: Astronomy Cast; Virtual Star Party; Weekly Space Hangout; Guide to Space/Explainer Videos

http://www.youtube.com/user/universetoday

I usualy keep up with announcements of these when they are live on G+

Astrospherevids from Costmoquest.org

Includes: Learning Space (weekly);  Special event hangouts; and videos from hangouts that are also in the universe today channel

https://www.youtube.com/user/astrospherevids

Not a youtube channel but Brian Koberlein regularly posts detailed posts on astronomy related subjects https://plus.google.com/+BrianKoberlein/posts

There are loads on YouTube. Just stick in single keywords like 'Space', 'Universe', 'Solar System', 'Black Holes'  and then filter them to be over 20 minutes long. Also add documentary at times to those words. Look for videos from around 50 minutes upwards. I've learnt so much about the Solar System, our galaxy and the universe.

Then for some real gems stick in 'Albert Einstein'. Most of my lunch breaks (1 hour) and some evenings have been taken up by these videos at work and home. I've found looking at all those videos has given so much more of an understanding on what's out there and how things physically work. Sometimes the theory goes over my head, but it's all been such a help.

The good thing is they are all free, reasonable quality and you can quickly skip through them to see if they will be of interest.

Finally I watched loads of videos on using a telescope, especially the EQ mount, Polar Aligning etc. When you find a store like scopes and skies that do one or two interesting videos on scopes etc you soon click on their channel and watch the lot.

Cheers langy, I'm thinking mainly for in the office myself when I am doing something that doesn't need concentration so lectures and such like are ideal. I'm also after clear AP tutorials.
