7'th of february 2014, Northern Lights over Faroe Islands

Recommended Posts

I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed a quite powerful aurora borealis last night around 23:00 GMT, so of course I had to try and do some quick imaging! After a 1 hour light show with beautiful green curtains it died down slowly, so sadly the timelapse turned out quite short. :)

I took the images with my unmodified Canon 1100D, ISO1600, all of it 24s subs. I used the Tokina 11-16mm lens @ F/2.8. As this was my first time imaging auroras, I wasn't quite sure what settings to go with, I think they might've ended up a bit too bright, but ah well!

Here are some images:

And a short timelapse video:

I included a short star timelapse... The plan was to timelapse the entire night long and catch a sunrise, but around 3am it clouded over completely, so I took everything inside and called it a night.

I had to slow down the timelapse, just to make it a little longer, so it's actually 1/4 of normal speed. (7,5 FPS) And the second one 15FPS, makes it look a bit choppy tbh, but still watchable.

Thanks for watching. :)
