EQ5 Bolts

Has anyone had the same experience as me. the long threaded latitude bolt on my EQ5 mount has bent like the letter s !!!. Thankfully the threaded hole is still ok but I was wondering if this is common and is there a remedy for this...

Hi, I believe it's a common problem with the EQ5 & HEQ5. I replaced my EQ5's stock bolts with some stainless steel ones from Astro Developments (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EQ5-CG5-Replacement-upgrade-Altitude-Adjustment-Bolts-/280618415279). Glad your mounts otherwise unaffected

remember to loosen the opposite one before tightening the other

I know its logic but in the cold,dark and with lack of sleep you can forget

Yes Steve, It does make sense although the bolts seem very flimsy for what they are expected to do work wise.

I agree they are poor, but you can even bend the replacements if you use enough force
