Celestron edge 8 hd Telescope

I am a total beginner and want to take up astro photography I was given this scope is it to much for a beginner or should I stick with it and learn to use it as I go.. Or get rid..... But want to keep it.. Lol

Nothing wrong with the scope, there's people on here will bite your arm of for it. a good mount to go under it if it never came with one that's not going to be cheap...

What a lovely scope. 

I would be tempted to look through it for a while first and appreciate what it can show you before stuffing a camera behind it.  The views to be had with that are supposed to be stunning,       Google - Celestron C8 Edge HD visual - OH MY GOD!!! and read that review.

Like you say 'but i want to keep it' I am not surprised, i am really not surprised!

thanks guys im going to stick with it, just need a good go

to computer tripod for it.....hope not to expensive....any suggestions as i want the right one for the job.

For just under £1k you can get a brand new NEQ6 Pro Synscan mount that will handle it with no problem and fully compatible with computer hook up. Alternatively the new Celestron VX which comes in a little cheaper (circa £800 I think).

You can save a fair bit going second hand - should be able to get a good NEQ6 for around £650'ish in A1 condition about 1yr old. The VX's are very new and I've not seen a used one for sale yet. Hth

FLO has got a sale on the CG-5 GT mount, your Edge will be fine on that has I have just had a look and the tube weight and it is 5.9kg.

Sorry, just thought of the weight of the camera on the back so you will want to go a bit heavier on the mount.

As said about the HEQ6 will do the job nicely.

the NEQ6 sounds great a little more than i thought but the mount has to do its job, and would rather pay that than be disappointed with a bad mount thanks brantuk,

before i do any camera work will do some observing first to get use to the equipment...thank you all for your help and advice. more stupid questions to follow when i set up camera..lol
