I am away in Northumberland with the gf and with it being so dark here and clear skies last night, what a cracking view of the sky. We saw the milky way naked eye for the first time and what an amazing site !!

Thursday night/ Friday morning was particularly clear at my site in Northumberland - I got an SQ reading of 21.67. The winter Milky Way was a very fine sight, running through Auriga and past Orion, towards the horizon. That's a much fainter stretch than the Cygnus region, and nice to see it shining so well. Viewing DSOs is a cinch under conditions like that - I logged my 2,000th NGC.

I never appreciated the Milky Way until I moved to London and couldn't see it.

As Joni Mitchell sang, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone..."

Me too, being near London I don't get to see it often but whenever I am at a dark site I always take a while to sit back and enjoy the view.
