Tripod for Canon DSLR

Looking to get a decent value for money tripod for my DSLR. Any dos and donts?

Amazon have one for £40, Cash Converters have a manfrotto for £80.

I need advice please help!!

What sort of lenses are you going be using on it?  If it's Just a DSLR and some short FL lenses for a bit of static wide field then even the Cheapo will probably suffice...

For now I've got the standard 18-55 and a Samyang 14mm but will acquire a 300mm at some point. Will this require something substantial?

I wasted a fortune over the years incrementally improving my tripod and heads to cope with the increasingly heavier kit I was using.... I have a stash of tripods and boxes of  heads...

The Cash Convertors one - Which model Mafrotto tripod and which head does it have fitted?

I'd need to go and check again Peter. Sounds like I should consider something substantial right at the start!

Something mid range would serve you well until you go to the more extreme kit...... 

Also decide what type of head you want... although buying from cash convertors wont give you much if any a choice...

I went mad and bought one of these.

I went really mad and bought a Gitzo 5542LS... and Induro  Gimbal head...

But then again it has to handle a Canon 5D MK III with Battery grip , and a Canon 600/f4L IS USM with a 2X TC... and be able to track birds in flight...

Hopefully it's the last tripod I will ever have to buy.... I am not the lightest of fellows but I can "swing" of the tripod...

Probably overkill for your needs though FM

Wow that is some serious kit! I want to spend no more than £50 to be honest as it's only to take the odd comet or Milky Way shot.

In that case get something around that price and you will be fine.... Accept its a £50 tripod probably with a fixed 3 way pan and tilt head which will be ok for your current requirements
