balancing ed80 on cgem

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I have just bought myself an evostar ed80 and canon 1100d for my cgem mount. It all arrived today and am very pleased. I have thought long and hard about everything I needed to start deep sky imaging properly and thought I had all the boxes ticked.

Then I mounted the scope on the cgem and found a problem I just can't seem to balance the scope in Dec once everything is attached ( camera and Orion finderguider)

Can anyone offer any help on what I can do or what they have done to overcome this problem? I really don't think I can afford much more if I need to buy more stuff

You should be able to do a couple of things....

-First try to slide the OTA in the rings as far as possible....

- Offset the dovetail in the saddle clamp (or use a longer dovetail) to push the front of the OTA forward

or

- Use a TESCO wrist weight (velcro strap) on the front of the OTA to get better balance.
