Orion a beginers image

HI all, have been having a lot of fun with my scope over the last year and finally Orion is favourable for imaging again, still low I stacked 20 45 second subs to get my best result yet. Any comments and advice always gratefully received.

You just know someone will mention using flats don't you ? Have a go at them. If you don't succeed straight away then keep trying. Costs nowt and loads to learn by it.

Although I've been beaten to it, I too must mention Flats - difficult to take they may be but they are worthwhile. Here I have used a 'false flat' technique to try and resolve the vignetting. It hasn't done a great job but it hints at how flats can be instrumental in making images appear more natural:-

Yes, the instant I saw it I thought 'flats.' There is no way out of it, you need them!!

is there a tutorial on creating/using flats? I have taken darks and some quick light frames but I really do not know what to do with them?
