Oh blimey, shows my age.

Was given a pair of 8 x 30 GreenKat binoculars when I was about 11. Still got them, use them for birding and sky watching.

I believe they were a perfectly reasonable Japanese binocular manufacturer in the 60s and 70s. Don't know what happened after that, I think the trail runs cold. Mine, by modern standards, are hopelessly outdated. You have to be careful about humidity or they will fog up etc but perfectly serviceable. Good as a spare pair but I think a modern pair would be much better.

I may as well admit it - I'm ancient enough to remember Greenkat binoculars and telescopes. I don't think they ever made anything; the name was just a label stuck on things that were made all over the place like Bresser, Opticron, Tasco and a host of others today. I think most Gteenkat binoculars were made in Japan in the 1960s, but I believe some were made in Hong Kong - Hugh.
