RDF won't align...

I recently re-aligned my Baader Sky Surfer V (RDF) with my 6" refractor, but when I wanted to put it back on the 4" apo, it was a total nightmare getting it to align again. I eventually gave up.

When I first aligned it with the apo, it went swimmingly. And realigning  with the 6" frac required only minor tweaks. Now, back on the apo and it seems difficult to get it right.

The shoe is still  very solid, which makes me puzzled over what the reason could be.

I'm thinking probably the focuser got slightly misaligned and hence the misaligned finder...

I would agree, they are simple enough to take apart and rebuild , normally !!!

Full indeed..10% work, 10% family, 1% DIY and 79% fixing DIY that's gone horribly wrong...

Have you tried to untighten all the adjustment screws first, then align? Maybe some screw has reached the end?

Absolutely. There is a deal of "slop" in some finder shoes. Rounded castings, thick crackle paint?

Simple addition of a little bit of stick-on "velor" (felt even) sheet at strategic points can help.

It worked perfectly before. Only when I aligned it to the other scope then reverted the process this started to happen.
