Deep Sky Stacker Detected Stars

Up until now I have used the Advance Tab to detect about 50 stars. Is that about the amount you guys adjust the detection threshold to?

Anything between 30-80 if you can - less and DSS doesn't like it and more just takes longer to process.

That's a surprisingly low number. Does it do only rotate, scale and offset, or does it morph too?

When using PI, the standard setting is to limit to the 2000 brightest stars.

I normally aim for about 50 but it's worked OK from 20 to 500, just a bit slower at the high end.

DSS only needs 8 stars to do its alignment. It just does translation and rotation.  I have found that using substantially more than this does not affect the accuracy of the result one iota.

p.s. they have to be the same 8 stars on each frame of course!

OK. I really do recommend stacking in PI. It is extremely accurate, uses tons (up to two tonnes to be more precise) of stars and morphs the image if need be. As for translation and rotation only, what is the purpose of the stars above two???
