Burgess Optical

Hi All

Quick one. Is the Burgess Optical EPs available in the US, the same as all the other TMB/TMB Type II etc etc clones, or is it more like the Burgess/TMB spoken of old which had a good reputation?

Thanks

Barry

No, they tend to be different, generally considered lower quality to the TMB/Burgess ones that are sold in the US.

Will say that reading the assorted (heated) US posts about this question seems to indicate that the US has the "genuine" ones and what seems to be non-genuine ones as well. Think there is either one or two recognised genuine TMB/Burgess retailers, and I think that there are more retailers of TMB eyepieces however. What these are I have no idea some may be genuine, others may not.

The whole area tends to be a minefield/hornets nest.

If you want "genuine" ones track down the recognised retailers, if you want what is I understand is a good "TMB" then consider the one from TS. I have read that it is good. After that the choice is yours.

TMB came in Type I and later Type II.

There were something like 6 improvements made.

As I recall SCS were the only ones that sold the original and Type II eyepieces.

i belive the ts-hrs like ronin said are descendants to the original thomas black and burgess e.p.s. i believe they have the only copyright, the other so called tmbs only share the name, not the important bit

The only TMB type Planetary eyepieces authorised by the Estate of the late Thomas Back are those from Astronomics. This is the model I found to be the best when I compared 4mm versions.

The Burgess Optical ones, http://www.burgessop.../1335315982.jpg looks identical to those sold in the UK, for example: http://i.ebayimg.com/t/1-25-4-5mm-58-Degree-TMB-Planetary-II-eyepiece-/00/s/NDgwWDY0MA==/$(KGrHqV,!lkE+sFVO9RZBQHQYPj4qg~~60_12.JPG . The latter type was included in my comparison of 4mm Planetary eyepieces, here: http://stargazerslou...tary-eyepieces/
