when using the AZ EQ6 in Alt AZ mode do i still need to polar align and does the goto still work in this mode?

The setting up is slightly different depending on whether in EQ or Alt Az mode, your instruction manual should tell you the specifics.

However, you don't need to polar align in Alt Az mode, but there will be a Home position and then an alignment procedure to follow before using the goto.

But yes, it will work!

I have the same mount and prefer to use the alt az mode because it is so simple to set up. I don't do imaging (yet!) so alt az is fine. I just point the mount roughly north and level, do a simple two star alignment and away we go
