There is no magic formula, it all depends on your camera, and your skies on any particular night, and only experience and trial and error will really help you get the best from each set of conditions.

Prepare to be flexible!

That seems a lot to figure out trail and error for my location works best i found any thing over 6 minutes and the s/n is a waste i do not bin,i did try 10 minutes but with a dslr the glow is just to much
