Tal 100R vs RS

A bit of a newbie question but what is the difference between these two scopes? I heard the rs has longer focus travel, what does this mean in real terms?

The 100R has a rack an pinion focuser, early models had 1.25 only focuser and limited travel, plus a metal dewshield, the optics were said to be a tiny bit sharper, the new 100RS has a superb crayford focuser and still one of the best optics in its class

I have a 100R and it certainly has the short focus travel that Jules mentions. That said, all of my normal Hyperions come to focus quite happily (5mm to 24mm). But my 31mm Aspheric, in 1.25" mode, does not. Other positives include a wooden box which holds the OTA, wooden tripod, mount and other bits and pieces.

Thanks guys an interesting thread how does the 'seeing' compare. I thinking if i could get an original r with wooden tripod i could get a rs once funds permit
