Orion ED 80 v SW Evostar 80 ED DS Pro OTA

Could someone please confirm that the Orion ED80 is optically identical to the SW Evostar ED80? And that an Orion will match my Evostar and take a SW 0.85x FR/FF intended for the SW ED80?

I'm enquiring about an Orion ED80 advertised on ABS and thinking of matching it to my present Evostar 80 ED DS Pro for a dual imaging rig.

Yep they are optically identical. I've never used one for imaging but don't see any reason why the FR for the ED80 won't match.

At least the one on ABS has a decent focusser, just need a nosepiece for the FR and you're away.

Hi Gina,

I'm pretty sure it is. If it's f/7.5, then yes, it's the same. No reason why it shouldn't work with the f/r.

Great scopes. I had an Orion verion myself - lovely.
