jambouk
When doing widefield imaging with a DSLR, what do you think generates less noise when trying to increase light capture; doubling the ISO or doubling the exposure time?ThanksJames
Cath
Increasing the exposure time will always be less noisy than increasing the ISO/gain James.

nytecam
Unlke the old days of film [pick the ISO rating/ colour/ mono] your DSLR sensor has a fixed 'speed' tweaked via the ISO setting and internal hardware. So a longer exposure collects more 'new' data rather than boosting what little it has - noise included
earth titan
But then increasing the exposure time means guiding has to be spot on, to avoid odd shaped stars.
