Hi Gary,

I went a couple of months ago with my son. Planetarium was our favourite bit which lasted 45 minutes. Have a look at this thread I posted about it.

It's a must do visit just for the history of the place. I've been 3 or 4 times over the years - most recently with a bunch of astro mates back in Feb. Great family day out.

Give yourself plenty of time to look around,there is a lot to see and take in.Also "hands on" activities for younger visitors.

The planetarium show gave me a neck ache though... If you ever go, get in early and sit near the back

Stood on the meridian line (of course) gave me a chance to check the accuracy of my phones GPS / compass...

being able to observe the moon through the 28 inch refractor was the icing on the cake.

I went quite a long time ago when I wasn't mad into astronomy. Stood on the meridian like everyone else East & West. I plan to visit again this year, this time I know a bit more what it's all about.

We went in day time... No observing :-(

Make sure you stop off at Cutty Sark visitors centre. Run by the Meantime Brewery - IMHO the best brewers currently operating in the UK. Don't expect to leave in a straight line :-S
