Focuser Advice - Crayford vs Helical

Hi all,

Does anyone have any advice on the pro/cons of crayford focuser vs a non-rotating helical focuser?

I generally use a 32 & 25mm 1 1/4" plossl eyepieces in conjunction with a 2x barlow and would like to have smoother, more precise focusing on my 6" Maksutov Cassegrain.

I like the price of the Revelation crayford focuser and the Borg helical focusser (both around the £100 mark). Does anyone have any experience of these models?

I'm currently leaning towards the lighter Borg helical as I'm close to maxing out on my EQ3 mount!

I use the Borg #7315 helical on all my PST mods and the spectroscopes...

Solid, good focus control (< 5 micron) and well made. The only restriction, obviously, is the limited travel.

Recommended.

The limited travel of the helical focuser is of little concern on a Mak or SCT as you can use the primary mirror adjustment with the original focus system to reach approximate focus and then the helical for the fine focus.
