images of M51 from LP. Advice/experience requested.

Hi Olly ...

I am north of Lincoln, UK. I have skyglow of the surrounding (large) village plus Lincoln and behind me some astroturf floodlights. Then there are the "security" lights flicking on and off when a cat wanders through somebodys garden. It ain't perfect.

I actually imaged M51 last week (hoping for more clear skies to add more colour but this is how it stands atm)

Hi all,

I'm working on an article about imaging M51 and would love to hear from you if you've managed to catch the tidal extensions in any kind of LP.

I don't have any significant LP so I don't know what's possible. I've seen plenty of M51s from LP so the galaxies can clearly be done, but have you had any luck with the outer halo from an imperfect site? If so I'd be delighted to hear from you.

If any of you guys have any hi-res RGB you'd like to share the colour from to help me complete my M51 image I'd be happy to hear from you

For interests sake here's a simple stretched version of the Luminance data I have. My skies are poor, at very best mag 5, but most of this image was taken on less than perfect nights.

Hi Komet - fabulous image from your quoted LP Lincoln garden but that's not LP as I know it - well done. My only change I'd make is to correct the mirrored appearance

There are some steamingly good images from imperfect skies here. I have to be careful when writing about LP since I don't have a significant amount. I can't say we have literally none, though above about 30 degrees I think it's close to zero. Thanks for all the input. This is certainly an accessible galalxie even if your LP is bad.
