Is this the cone ?

So my first Cone Nebula (NGC 2264) attempt, it was quite windy so this is an hour 120 exposures with darks and flats.

There seems to be a halo around the main star - no idea why, i have plate solved and im on target I think, guess i just need lost more data and ideally longer exposures like my regular 300 secs ?

Yes, that definitely is the Cone, but I guess you just need longer exposures. I have successfuly imaged it with a series of 300s exposures on my unmodded 450d, and captured some nebulosity even on single exposures.

Have you stretched the image? If this is linear then the nebulosity won't show. This is a good explanation by RobH; http://www.middlehillobservatory.co.uk/articles-primers/Levels%20and%20curves.htm
