F1Bird
After weeks of fruitless searching and in spite the best attempts of my RDF to thwart my quest I finally saw the moon and Jupiter last night! And through the telescope too! The moon was crystal clear through the 10mm eye piece. Jupiter was surprisingly clear too. Quite a big creamy coloured disc and I swear I could make out a cloud belt. I do have a question though. I definitely saw one moon just peeking out on the bottom right. However, there were 2 more, similar sized points on either side roughly equidistant from the planet. They looked a bit too far away to be moons but I they looked too small to be stars. How far to the sides would the moons be? I cant have been lucky enough to see 3 though! wheresthetorch?
Yes, they can be quite a distance out - looking a bit like stars strung out on either side. Have Jupiter in the eyepiece now, but a bit hazy tonight . . .
F1Bird
Didn't manage to find Jupiter tonight. Took almost an hour to find the moon by which point I was almost hypothermic! Same time again tomorrow!
swamp thing
Sounds like another celestron astromaster??Those finders are terrible. I'm sure they've tempted many a newbie to leave the hobby. Fancy putting something as useless as this on a starter scope.......madness
F1Bird
That's the one! Quite pleased with the rest of the scope though. The images are good and clear once you find something to look at! An order for a Rigel Quikfinder will be going in shortly methinks!
