White light imaging and observing - WO Megrez 72 or CPC925GPS?

After watching the latest edition of the The Sky at Night, I am considering using either of the above scopes with Baader solar film for white light solar imaging and observing, but which would be the best one to use?

You'll get more resolution from the big one. However, a Herschel wedge in a refractor might beat Solar Film on an SCT. Someone will have compared them. The wedge beats the film but is refractor only.

Thanks for the reply, Olly. Wanted to keep the price down - can't afford a Herschel wedge at the moment, so I think I'll go for the Baader solar film with my CPC 925.

I use Baader film on a TV Pronto (70/450mm) and it's marvellous. Loads of detail visible, surface granulation, faculae, detail in the spot penumbra etc. I tried using baader film on a 127Mak and could never get close to this level of detail.

+1 for the Megrez, 72mm is plenty enough aperture for white light, SCT's aren't the best instrument for solar use IMO.

Good to know. I can feel an experiment coming on since I have a Pronto!
