I'm about to fork out for a new scope, purely for direct observation. Two scopes are in the frame. C9'25 and MAK 180 Pro. The OTA will be mounted on an HEQ5.

Been contemplating the same question myself , decided on the Mak 180Pro over the C9.25 based purely on Mak over SCT , less collimation issues . . .

moving that direction myself. Think it's a no brainier especially considering the gulf in costs!

For DSO, 9.25 should be better on the fainter stuff - about 55mm more aperture. Slightly wider FOV too as a result of the shorter FL, if that matters to you.

Collimating a SCT is a lot easier than collimating a Mak!

Either are fine scopes, but be sure that your choice will do what you want it to...
