Holmes through cloud

Recommended Posts

It's not often you can see a comet through cloud but 17P is one such object. A horrendous sky covered in clag with varying thickness. I set up a Mintron integrating video camera and watched for thinning gaps and then captured the comet as best I could. Things weren't helped by a bright Moon which created a misty wash over the sky.

Looks for all the world like a defocused star. In fact I thought my focuser had come undone and my camera had slipped. It was only when I saw the pin-point stars close by in the image that I realised what was going on. A weird and amazing comet.
