The 76mm aperture (size of the mirror) of this scope is very small for a reflector, and I think you will easily tire of its limitations, if you want to just test the water, then OK if this is your maximum budget. Personally, I would save for a bigger aperture scope, it will be more useful in the end.

Hows 114 apeture??

I am pleased with my 135, but this is my first quality purchase. I can see a lot more than I thought I would with this model. Sorry I can't help personally with the 114
