when is a dob not a dob

hi everyone,

i understand that you can quite easily (with rings and things) mount for example a 200mm tube taken from a dob

onto a eq5 or 6

yes?

but can you go the other way? in say take an explorer 200mm eq mounted and fit to a dob?

but where do you get a dob mount?

does anyone sell dob mounts? and relative attachments?

or do you have to make your own?

coz im rubbish at woodwork

has anyone out there done this?

OOUK sell dob mounts http://www.orionoptics.co.uk/MOUNTS/dobsonianmount.html They are very good but also far from cheap. Plenty of people have made their own Dob mounts. Have a look through the DIY Astronomer forum .

You can definitely put the telescope tube (optical tube assembly) on different mounts.

Dob mounts aren't difficult to build, but if you lack tools and/or skill, you might seek out an astronomical society or club that can help with that. This is a common activity in the club to which I belong - members are all too eager to help with equipment questions and needs.
