How Long To Expose?

Excellent information in there Rob. I am not into imaging in a big way but do have a webcam set up for planetary work that I just put together, so some of the info in youur tutorials was very useful, thnaks

Hi Everyone,

So after a long wait, my CGEM 800 finally arrived. Here is the first image of The Orion Nebula. Please give advice. It is a very short exposure: (20 x 10s) + (40 x 5s) .

The tracking is flawless when I add a few calibration stars.

An excelent start! Already even with 10s exposures some of the outer nebula is showing and as you say the stars are good. Now you need push the boundaries a bit and try some longer shots?
