HEQ5 Synscan Handset Upgrade

One out there for any HEQ5/NEQ6 Pro users in the Lounge

I'm running an older HEQ5 Pro with the V2 handset, which is running Synscan ver 02.05. All seems to perform fine for visual use and I've no immediate plans to do anything more than play with webcams for some lunar/planetary imaging.

Is it worth investing the £ 140 for a V3 handset? Looking at articles posted here there seem to be quite a few issues/bugs even with the later versions, though realise that some of these are betas. Not sure about the advantages of PAE, but the GPS functionality for lat/long and time do not seem worth an extra £ 100 when I have these on my phone.

Am I better off putting the money towards a Baader Hyperion Click Stop 8-24?

The GPS & Time options are only automatic if you connect the optional GPS unit to the handset so the outlay would be even more than just the handset price. Of course you can use a GPS USB dongle on your PC if you use EQMOD.

Thanks Stevie, I've got this working from my home pc (Ubuntu 12.04 & Stellarium) - but impracticable to get this outside. Think I might have to keep an eye out for a reasonable s/h laptop/netbook as my work one struggles to give more than 2hrs on a charge - but definitely will give it a go.
