Which bolts????

Hi

I've read a few articles on the above subject but just want some conformation from those in the know!

I've just purchased my imaging kit and have a number of Skywatcher dovetail plates and one of the guidescope mounts. They don't come supplied with the bolts and want to be sure I am buying the right ones. The thread appears slightly larger than most bolts I've seen. I have seen Whitworth mentioned but wondered if it was possible to purchase the Skywatcher bolts anywhere??

If you can't find the correct ones from astro suppliers, you could take the dovetail to a good DIY store and hopefully find bolts to fit. In my area we have a couple of 'old fashioned' DIY shops that keep stocks of imperial threaded bolts that some big stores do not.

If i remember correctly, the thread on my SW dovetail is 1/4" UNC

Many thanks...seems 1/4 UNC is the way forward. Found them on ebay so might get some ordered. Fingers crossed!!!

If you happen to have a camera tripod lying around you could test it on that. They're either 1/4UNC (or 3/8UNC for a porky camera I think). IIRC the bolt you get for attaching a camera to the Skywatcher scope rings is also 1/4UNC if you have one of those.
