I'm sure there must be a reason for banning edits, just can't see one.

You will be able to edit posts in most forums when you reach 250 posts.

It was to stop people abusing the function. People would say something, then go back and edit the post so the mods couldnt take further action.

I believe at 250 posts you are able to edit again, for about 20mins after the post was posted

Only the members in the "Advanced Member" group can use the edit function.

Members go into that group automatically when they reach 250 posts... it's the same method that we use to give full access to the Classifieds.

Once you post a thread you will then have 30 minutes to edit if necessary. So as Ronin stated above not long to go.
