Skywatcher Skymax 127 Synscan power

Recommended Posts

I've just purchased a Skywatcher Skymax 127 Synscan, and I was wondering if I could use my 12v power lead for my Black & Decker cordless drill to power it, instead of using batteries.

I know there is a Skywatcher Powertank available, but to be honest, I can't afford one, so I'm looking for a cheaper alterrnative that won't damage the Synscan unit.

Cheers.

Kev

Not sure about the B&D power unit but I use one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/3-in-1-portable-jumpstarter-383992 which is a lot cheaper than the Skywatcher. I have had mine nearly 2 years and it is still working well. You do need to charge it regularly to make sure the battery does not die - I do mine after every session and every few weeks when I am not using it.

If you are only using it at home or have access to mains how about one of these http://www.opticstar...?p=0_10_5_0_3_2

rated at 2 amp but and the SynScan only needs 1 amp

To quote the manual

"The SynScan AZ should be powered by 11-15V DC

power supply (tip-positive) capable of producing

continuous current of minimum 1 amps"

I have the larger 4 amp model that I use for my CG5 but it does work with my SynScan
