EQ6 GOTO SynScan GPS upgrade via a GARMIN eTrex

Hi. Orion,

I have a Meade LX90, and I bought the GPS Mate. It works fine on the Meade. I use it via my ETrex Legend GPS.

My scope is a 12", and I am constructing an observatory for it to be permanently mounted on an equatorial wedge.

The GPS Mate is handy if you are setting up at different sites otherwise there is not much point in having one.

I believe between the two available systems, the Star is a bit cheaper, and I don't think it needs batteries.

Thats about it really. A matter of choice, and/or need.

Ron.

I know the Tom-Tom (One) wouldn't be too great re pointing North, but without hooking it up you can still use it for positioning, I do- use the GPS from the menu ( preferences I think) and just copy it in during set-up. It's accurate to aprox 30m !
